Advanced Building Techniques – Residential,

May 6th - 10:00 a.m. MST

From the attic down through wall framing and into the crawlspace, we will address advanced building techniques that are being employed to build more energy efficient homes and, how the International Residential Code and International Energy Conservation Code building address these techniques.

This 2 hour course will look at topics such as the unvented attics and the building and energy code requirements that apply to insulation placement.  What requirements apply to plastic insulation installed in both warm and cold climates?  How will I get my roof to comply with the building code if I install air permeable insulation in a cold climate under the roof deck?  Using advanced wall framing techniques saves materials and energy but what International Residential Code requirements apply to this type of framing?  Finally, the building and energy codes both have requirements for crawlspace foundation insulation and venting but how do you comply with the codes or unvented crawlspaces?

This interactive course will have time for questions, answers, and discussion throughout.

Eric Makela will be your instructor.  Eric has worked for more energy efficient construction for over 20 years.  He trains across the country on energy efficient building practices, building codes, and above code programs.  He is a partner in Britt/Makela Group, Inc.
